What Is Videographer Insurance?

Videographer insurance is business liability insurance tailored specifically for video professionals. It’s designed to protect you from third-party claims related to your business operations, like clients getting hurt during filming, or the shooting location’s property being damaged.

With FFI, you get a series of essential liability coverages plus multiple add-on options, so you can build the best policy built for your business. Start with one of three base options:

  • Annual Plus (from $30.17/month): Includes general liability, the first tier of camera and equipment insurance, and the option to add additional coverages (most popular)
  • Annual (from $12/month): Includes general liability and the option to add additional coverages
  • Event (from $59/event): Includes general liability and the ability to add additional insureds

Note:
All policies allow you to add additional insureds, but other optional coverages, like professional liability and camera insurance, are not available on Event policies.

No matter how careful you are on set, you can’t eliminate all risk. An actor could get hurt, your camera could get damaged mid-shoot, or a corrupted memory card could put your whole production at risk. Without insurance, even one incident can cost you thousands out of pocket.

How Much Does Videographer Insurance Cost?

Videography insurance costs as low as $12 per month, or $129 per year, for a standard annual liability policy.

Annual Plus policies start at $30.17 per month and include all standard liability coverages, plus $20,000 in camera equipment coverage. If you upgrade to the $30,000 camera coverage tier (our most popular), your policy would only cost $31.75 per month.

Single Event policies cost just $59 per event and cover up to three consecutive days.

Let Us Take Care of That

Accidents happen — even to the most careful videographers. With FFI, you’re covered. Here’s how we’ve helped others like you:

Also known as “failure to deliver” or errors and omissions (E&O), professional liability coverage protects you from mistakes you make as well as issues that may be out of your control.

It can cover negligence claims that arise from issues like malfunctioning equipment, faulty memory cards, or if you get sick and have to cancel at the last minute. It even extends to your professional advice, so if you teach photography classes as part of your business, we strongly recommend this additional coverage option.

Note: Included in Annual Plus and Annual policies. Not available for Event policies.

Camera Equipment Insurance

Drone Liability

Drones help you capture creative, cinematic shots like no other, but they’re also a serious investment for your business. This special type of equipment coverage protects that investment by helping with repair or replacement costs if your drones are damaged or stolen on the job.

Common Questions About Videographer Insurance

Videographers need general liability coverage for third-party injury and property damage claims, professional liability insurance to help protect against errors and omissions, and camera equipment insurance to safeguard their gear. They should also consider data breach coverage (aka cyber liability) to guard against financial fallout from cyberattacks.

Common videography claims stem from things like unhappy clients, injured third parties, or damaged property. Videographer insurance is designed to cover claims like these:

  • Third-party bodily injury claims, like if a wedding guest needs medical attention after tripping over your tripod
  • Third-party property damage claims, like if your lighting apparatus topples over and damages a venue’s flooring
  • Third-party claims related to real or perceived negligence, like using a bad memory card, losing a client’s photos, or failing to provide the finished product on time (with optional professional liability coverage)
  • First-party claims related to damage or theft of your essential gear (with optional camera equipment coverage)

Claims like these can drain your profits fast, financially devastating your business. FFI’s robust coverage is built to absorb these hits, so a single bad day on set doesn’t threaten your entire business.

Yes — depending on the policy you purchase. Our Annual Plus plan bundles camera and gear coverage alongside general liability.

Standard Annual policies, however, do not automatically include coverage for your cameras and equipment. You need to opt in to that coverage when purchasing your policy, or, if you’re an existing policyholder, you can log in to your online portal and add camera coverage anytime.

Camera coverage is not available on Event policies.

Also known as inland marine or camera insurance, video equipment insurance is designed to cover the cost of repairing or replacing damaged or stolen business equipment. It covers the transportable gear you own or rent to run your business, including:

Our equipment insurance covers qualified claims that occur at home, in transit, and on location.

Full Frame offers four equipment coverage levels, with total annual protection ranging from $20,000 to $75,000. So, whether you’re insuring a single camera body or a full production kit, FFI has the coverage that matches what’s on your call sheet.

  • Available for Annual policies, from $20,000 to $75,000 in aggregate (the max your policy will pay during your policy period) coverage
  • Starts at $18.17/month or $218/year
  • $250 deductible

FFI offers four levels of Camera Equipment Coverage:

  • Tier 1: $2,000 per
    item/$20,000 aggregate = $18.17/month
  • Tier 2: $5,000 per item/$30,000 aggregate = $19.75/month
  • Tier 3: $10,000 per item/ $60,000 aggregate = $37.50/month
  • Tier 4: $15,000 per item/ $75,000 aggregate = $47.33/month

FFI also offers four levels of Drone Equipment Coverage:

  • Tier 1: $2,000 per item/$20,000 aggregate = $25.83/month
  • Tier 2: $5,000 per item/$30,000 aggregate = $32.08/month
  • Tier 3: $10,000 per item/ $60,000 aggregate = $63.33/month
  • Tier 4: $15,000 per item/ $75,000 aggregate = $82.50/month

You need videographer insurance because videography (even amateur videography) comes with risks. Filming at different locations, hefting your gear back and forth, and shooting a variety of subjects exposes you to an array of unknowns. In the event of an accident, you could face claims with an out-of-pocket cost in the thousands.

It’s also common for venues, national and state parks, landlords, event organizers, and other third parties to require you to provide proof of insurance. You may be required to add them to your policy as additional insureds. This protects them if they are sued because of an incident arising from your business operations.

More About FFI

Drone Coverage Insurance

Drone Coverage is a type of inland marine coverage (aka equipment coverage). It protects your investment in your gear by helping pay to repair or replace drones used for your business that are broken or stolen. You can add Drone Coverage to any Annual+ policy.

Important note: To qualify for Drone Coverage, you also need to carry Drone Liability Insurance, which covers your risk of harming other people or their property while operating your drones.

Drone Liability Insurance

Drone Liability Insurance covers your risk of physically injuring someone else or damaging their property while operating a drone. For example, if your drone clips a sign or drops onto someone’s car, this coverage could pay for repair costs or medical bills. You can buy it as an add-on to any Annual or Annual+ policy.

Data Breach (Cyber Liability)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Cyber liability insurance protects your business from the costs you face because of a cybersecurity breach. Cybercrime is a common threat to businesses both big and small. If you collect or store business information online on a computer, tablet, or mobile device, we highly suggest including this additional protection in your policy.

Failure to Deliver (Professional Liability)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Failure to deliver coverage — also known as professional liability or errors and omissions — protects your business from the cost of negligence claims. These can arise from professional mistakes, like giving bad instructions, memory card or equipment failures ruining your shoot, or a last-minute illness that means you can’t fulfill your contract.

Additional Insureds

When you add a person, event, or organization to your policy as an additional insured, they receive protection if they are named in a suit due to a covered business-related loss/claim because of your actions or operations.

Additional insured status cannot be granted to a friend or co-worker as an extension of your policy. Each individual must purchase their own policy to obtain liability coverage.

A written contract, such as a venue, studio rental, or employment contract is required to add another party as additional insured.

General Liability

General liability is designed to protect your business from the cost of third-party bodily injury and property damage claims (like if a client trips over your gear at a shoot and injures themselves). It also protects against the cost of copyright infringement claims and personal and advertising injury claims.

Damage To Rented Premises

This coverage can protect your business from the cost of claims arising from damages done to rented spaces, like a studio or event booth. It’s common for property owners and event organizers to require businesses to list them as additional insureds on a policy before renting a space. Full Frame provides unlimited additional insureds for just $30.

Camera Equipment (Inland Marine)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Also known as inland marine insurance, camera equipment coverage protects your business from the cost of repairing or replacing damaged or stolen business equipment. This includes camera bodies, lenses, lighting equipment, and business equipment. We offer multiple levels of equipment coverage based on your business needs.
