Additional Insureds

Sometimes venues, property owners or managers, and other clients ask you to list them as an “additional insured” on your liability insurance policy. Why? Because naming them this way extends your insurance coverage to them in case they’re sued alongside you or because of your actions.

What Is an Additional Insured?

An additional insured is typically another professional entity, like a venue owner or event organizer, that could be named in a lawsuit due to your services, actions, or negligence.

Additional insureds on your photographer insurance benefit from the same protections you do if you’re both sued. It’s common practice in the industry, and many clients or vendors will require you to add them to your policy before they’ll work with you.

Your insurance will cover those you’ve listed as additional insureds. But, you will not be held responsible for their operations just because you added their name to your policy.

What Coverage Do Additional Insureds Receive?

Additional insureds receive the same coverage with the same terms as the policy you have for yourself.

FFI policies provide up to $2,000,000 total coverage in one policy year for general liability. This and your other coverages are shared between you and your additional insureds.

Who Can Be Listed as an Additional Insured?

Additional insureds can be anyone with a direct, professional connection to your business. Some common additional insureds include:

  • Landlords who own the studio you rent or work in
  • Businesses that hire you as an independent contractor
  • Property owners who own the location you use for shoots
  • Event planners who coordinate things like weddings, conventions, or festivals
  • Other organizations, like state and national park departments

Who Can’t Be Listed as an Additional Insured?

People who don’t qualify as additional insureds on your FFI policy include:

  • Business partners
  • Employees
  • Friends or family
  • Spouses

Even if these people help you occasionally with your business or even provide similar services as you, your policy cannot be extended to them.

Who Needs to Include Additional Insureds?

Photographers and videographers typically need to add additional insureds to their policy when they:

  • Rent studio space
  • Shoot in national and/or state parks
  • Work in spaces where the landlord or business owner requires their name to be listed as an additional insured
  • Are listed as “preferred vendors” by wedding and other event venues

However, if you’re not specifically required to name additional insureds as part of your contract or as a condition of employment, you may not need to add the other business entity on your policy.

How Much Does an Additional Insured Cost?

FFI annual policies have two options for adding additional insureds. You can add a single additional insured for $15 per year. Or, you can add unlimited additional insureds for only $30 per year.

Event policies allow you to purchase unlimited additional insureds for only $5.

How Do I Add Additional Insureds to My Policy?

Adding additional insureds to your insurance policy is simple. You can do it when you sign up for your initial policy by following the prompts at sign-up. You can also add them anytime after that through your client portal. Simply follow these steps:

  1.  Log in to your dashboard
  2. Click on the “Add Additional Insureds” button under the “Manage Policies” section
  3. If you’re adding more than one additional insured, click “Add Unlimited Additional Insureds
  4. Select the type of additional insured you’re adding and add their contact information
  5. Input and process your payment information, and review your updated policy
  • While purchasing your Full Frame Insurance policy, you’ll be asked if you want to add any additional insureds
  • Add the additional insured’s information
  • For an annual policy, choose your payment of $15 for one or $30 for unlimited. For event policies, pay $5 for one or unlimited additional insureds (this cost will appear on your final checkout screen)
If you missed this step while applying, you can add additional insureds from your dashboard anytime by following the instructions under “current policyholders.”

"Really easy & just what I needed."

Really easy & just what I needed now that I’ve upgraded my gear and need to have that peace of mind. Hopefully, I won’t need to submit a claim in the future, but if I do, I hope it goes as well as the purchasing did.

"Great, fast insurance at a perfect price."

Great, fast insurance at a perfect price. We work and shoot weddins internationally so it was super convenient to have fast, easy coverage for the few weddings that we had in the states this year. There were a couple of changes that I needed to make after purchasing a single-day policy and their customer support was super helpful and fast. Thank you, Full Frame!

Data Breach (Cyber Liability)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Data breach insurance can cover the cost of claims that arise from a cybersecurity breach. If you collect or store client info or photos online, take payments over the internet, or send sensitive data over email, we highly recommend adding this coverage to your policy.

Failure to Deliver (Professional Liability)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Failure to Deliver, aka professional liability or errors and omissions (E&O), can cover the cost of claims that arise from mistakes, like if your memory card fails and your client’s photos are lost, an unexpected illness prevents you from being able to shoot an event, or you inadvertently give poor or incomplete advice as part of a demo.

Additional Insureds

When you add a person, event, or organization to your policy as an additional insured, they receive protection if they are named in a suit due to a covered business-related loss/claim because of your actions or operations.

Additional insured status cannot be granted to a friend or co-worker as an extension of your policy. Each individual must purchase their own policy to obtain liability coverage.

A written contract, such as a venue, studio rental, or employment contract is required to add another party as additional insured.

General Liability

General liability insurance can cover the cost of third-party bodily injury and property damage claims, like if a client trips on your business equipment and injures themselves, or you accidentally damage furnishings or flooring at a venue. It also protects against the cost of copyright infringement claims, personal and advertising injury claims, and more.

Damage To Rented Premises

This coverage can protect your business from the cost of claims arising from damages done to rented spaces, like a studio or event booth. It’s common for property owners and event organizers to require businesses to list them as additional insureds on a policy before renting a space. Full Frame provides unlimited additional insureds for just $30.

Camera Equipment (Inland Marine)
(Optional With Annual Plans Only)

Also known as inland marine, camera equipment insurance can cover the cost of repairing or replacing damaged or stolen business equipment (camera bodies, lenses, lighting equipment, and more). Our policy can protect against claims that occur at home, on a job, and anywhere in between. Full Frame offers multiple coverage options for equipment insurance based on your business needs.
