What Is Drone Camera Insurance & What Does It Cover?
Drone camera and equipment insurance is designed to protect the transportable gear you use to conduct your business from common risks. It’s intended to keep you from paying out of pocket to fix or replace equipment if it’s lost or damaged.
FFI’s drone camera insurance covers equipment you own or rent for work, and applies to drones weighing 30 pounds or less. It’s currently available in all 50 states.
Damage to Your Drone Camera and Equipment on the Job
Example: An unexpected wind gust causes your drone to land awkwardly, breaking a few rotor blades and cracking the camera lens.
Damage to Your Drone Gear During Transportation
Example: You’re driving to a filming location when you’re involved in a collision. The impact from the other vehicle damages most of the equipment in your back seat.
Damage to Your Camera or Equipment by a Third Party
Example: While setting up for a new scene, a crew member accidentally knocks your controller off a table, and it no longer turns on.
Damage to or Loss of Your Camera/Gear as a Result of an Accident
Example: During an outdoor photoshoot, a tree branch sways and hits your drone, causing it to crash and break.
Loss From Theft
Example: There’s a break-in at your studio, and most of your gear is stolen. You file a police report and document your stolen items.
Note: If your gear is left unattended, such as in an unlocked car or studio, and someone steals it, it is not covered.
What Does Drone Camera Insurance Not Cover?
Drone camera insurance does not cover:
- Drones weighing over 30 pounds
- Equipment you rent to others
- Drone equipment that is not listed on your policy
If you replace or obtain new drones, you must update your policy with the new equipment’s information for it to be covered.
Drone Camera and Equipment Insurance Explained
Drone camera and equipment insurance helps protect the gear you rely on for work. Let’s break down the basics, including who needs coverage, how it differs from liability insurance, and what it typically costs.
Is Insurance Required for Professional or Commercial Drone Work?
You are not legally required to carry drone camera equipment insurance. However, it’s essential if you own or rent drone cameras for your business. Your gear is your livelihood, and losing it could cost you money to replace it (and jobs while you’re without it).
Who Needs Drone Camera and Equipment Coverage?
You likely need this coverage if you’re a photographer or videographer who owns or rents drone equipment for work.
We offer coverage for photographers and videographers providing drone services for things like:
- Ceremonies, weddings, and other special events
- Drone work done as part of commercial shoots
- School photos/events
- Wildlife
- Portraits
- Sports events
- Real estate aerial work

*Note: To obtain drone equipment coverage, you must purchase drone liability insurance.

Really easy & just what I needed now that I’ve upgraded my gear and need to have that peace of mind. Hopefully, I won’t need to submit a claim in the future, but if I do, I hope it goes as well as the purchasing did.
Great, fast insurance at a perfect price. We work and shoot weddins internationally so it was super convenient to have fast, easy coverage for the few weddings that we had in the states this year. There were a couple of changes that I needed to make after purchasing a single-day policy and their customer support was super helpful and fast. Thank you, Full Frame!
The easiest and fastest insurance experience I’ve ever encountered! I was overpaying dramatically for my business insurance before I found Full Frame. I’m so glad I found them!
Quick easy and more affordable than other options. I called to get a question answered and it was a really nice experience, the lady I spoke with was really helpful and kind.
Easier way to get insurance for your event. Hopefully I will never have to use it. 📸📽️
Ordering was super simple. Hopefully if I need to make a claim one day, that will be simple.
