Do Special Event Videographers Need Liability Insurance?

If you’re filming live events, liability insurance is a must. Accidents can happen fast: a guest trips over your light stand, your lens falls and scratches a venue floor, or an upset client claims your footage didn’t meet expectations. Without insurance, you could end up paying for costs like these 100% out of pocket.

Videographer insurance can protect you from the cost of claims like these, so you can stay focused on the story, not the setbacks. Full Frame’s coverage is ideal for videographers covering special events like:

  • Sports games and athletic tournaments
  • Trade shows, conferences, and conventions
  • Live performances, concerts, and theater productions
  • Corporate meetings, press events, parties, and product demos
  • Private events like weddings, birthdays, parties, and milestone celebrations
  • Fine art shows and gallery events — and more

Liability insurance gives you peace of mind on high-stakes shoots, whether you’re filming for a brand, a bride, or a Broadway rehearsal.

Corporate Event Videography Insurance

Videography capturing key events like product launches, executive interviews, training sessions, and live events comes with no second takes. When you’re working a fast-paced corporate videography session with cables, gear, and a tight schedule, even small accidents can lead to big problems.

If someone trips over your equipment or your lighting rig falls and damages your client’s property, you could be on the hook for the cost of hefty medical or repair bills. Corporate videographer insurance helps cover those risks so you can focus on delivering polished footage instead of dealing with costly claims.

Sports Event Videography Insurance

Capturing fast-paced action on the sidelines, recording athlete interviews, or filming team highlights means constantly moving your gear with little room for error.

No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen. A spectator trips, your lens gets smashed, or you cause damage to drywall or flooring while setting up to interview the coach, and suddenly you’re facing a costly claim.

Sports videographer insurance can protect you from paying out of pocket with up to $2 million in general liability, flexible equipment coverage, and optional professional liability. Stay game-ready so you can keep filming through fumbles, falls, and sideline surprises.

Trade Show Videographer Insurance

Trade shows are fast-paced, high-trafficked venues full of tight setups, crowded booths, and constant activity. You’re moving between presenters, navigating packed aisles, and setting up gear in a hurry, all while staying on schedule and capturing everything your client needs.

If someone trips over a cable, your equipment damages a booth display, or you’re blamed for a missed deliverable, the blame — and the bill — could land on you. Trade show videographer insurance is built for situations just like these. It can cover the cost of liability claims, so you’re free to keep rolling without worrying about booth mishaps or crowd chaos.

Performance & Fine Art Videography Insurance

Filming events for musicians, theater troupes, dancers, and artists requires a lot of agility in navigating fast-moving environments. You need to constantly adapt to capture the best of everything while filming live performances, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes interviews.

But in these creative spaces, it’s not uncommon for accidents to happen, no matter how careful you are. A guest trips over your tripod. Your lighting rig falls. You miss a critical shot, and your client files a complaint. Without insurance, the costs that could arise from situations like these might have to come out of your pocket.

Fine art and performance videographer insurance can protect you from the unexpected, so you can keep rolling stress-free through rehearsals, openings, and curtain calls.

Here’s a breakdown of our coverage

General Liability

General liability insurance helps protect your business if someone gets hurt or something is damaged during a shoot. For example, if a client gets injured during a shoot, it can help pay for medical bills and legal costs. It can also cover claims of copyright infringement, false advertising, or someone saying you damaged their reputation in your marketing.

Camera Equipment Insurance

Camera equipment insurance (aka inland marine) covers repair or replacement costs if your gear is stolen or accidentally damaged. That includes camera bodies, lenses, lighting, and more. It covers you whether you’re shooting on location, in your home studio, or on the road. Full Frame offers flexible options so you can choose the right coverage for your gear.

'Failure to Deliver' Coverage (Professional Liability) (Annual Only)

Also called “failure to deliver” or errors & omissions (E&O), this coverage helps protect you if a client claims you made a mistake or didn’t deliver what you promised. It can cover situations like faulty memory cards, missing key shots, or leaving out important details during a demo or class. If teaching or live demos are part of your business, it’s an especially smart add-on.

Cyber Liability (Annual Only)

Cyber liability insurance protects your business from costs that arise from cyberattacks or data breaches that hit your business. If you collect or store business info online on a computer, tablet, or mobile device, we highly suggest adding it to your policy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Events Videographer Insurance

The cost of event videographer insurance starts at $12 per month or $59 per 1-3 day event for general liability coverage. Our Annual Plus plan bundles camera and gear alongside general liability coverage at a cost of $23.83 per month and extends coverage to your equipment against theft and damage.

Choose My Coverage

Yes. Our event policy provides 3 days of general liability protection for $59. It’s perfect for one-off event videography gigs and is designed to meet venue and client contract requirements. But if you do more than two shoots a year, going with an annual plan is cheaper and gives you more ways to protect yourself and your business.

Get Protected

Event videographer insurance covers real-world risks and scenarios like these:

  • Trade shows and corporate events: A guest trips over your cables while you’re filming a keynote presentation, resulting in a medical claim
  • Weddings and private events: Your gear gets knocked over during a reception or quinceañera and damages the venue’s flooring
  • Sports events: Your camera is damaged by flying equipment or a sideline collision
  • Performances and fine art: Your memory card corrupts mid-performance, and your client claims you failed to deliver the footage you promised
  • Conventions and exhibitions: Your lighting setup falls and damages a vendor’s booth or display

Skipping coverage could mean paying for gear damage, liability claims, or missed deliverables out of pocket. With insurance, you’re backed up… just like your footage!

It’s common for event organizers and venues to require you to add them to your policy as an additional insured, and it’s easy to do:

  • Log in to your user dashboard
  • Click on the “Add additional insureds” button under the “Manage Policies” section
  • Select the type* of additional insured you want to add, then add their contact info
  • Complete payment

That’s it! It costs $5 to add unlimited additional insureds to an event policy. It costs $15 to add one additional insured to your annual policy (or $30 for unlimited additional insureds).

*Common types of additional insureds include: venues, event organizers, corporate clients, studio owners, national or state parks, and other qualified third parties.
